45/70 Government Light Recoil 300gr. JHP (Safe in Trapdoor Springfields)

(8 customer reviews)

$23.99

This is our lighter recoiling 45/70.  It is safe in all firearms (in good condition) chambered for this caliber.  This includes the Trapdoor Springfield.  It is loaded with the same 300 grain Hornady JHP used in our full strength 45/70.

This load is used by our customers, with great success, on deer-sized game up to 100 yards.  It is also finding its way in cowboy action shooting circles as well as your local shooting range.  We receive calls on a regular basis asking how we achieved this level of accuracy with such mild recoil.  If you love the nostalgia, ballistics, looks, and feel of a 45/70 (or all of the above) without the stout recoil of our full-powered load…give these a try.

I bought this to shoot steel offhand with a Buffalo Classic and Marlin Cowboy. After 10 rounds I realized this is actually great hunting ammo. Knocks down the LaRue steel hard at 250 yards, without beating you up. Love it. I’m ordering more!

Seems to be good quality ammo, priced right, shoots and cycles fine in my Marlin 1895 and very accurate.

It’s rare that I get excited about ammunition. The quality of the 45-70 gov. brass, bullets, and packaging was a pleasant suprise. Xcaliber is providing an exceptional product at a reasonable price, that is a home run.

The “Trapdoor Safe” light loads are great for plinking and practice with the 1895 Marlins. Little to no recoil and sub 1″ groups at 100 yds. are common in our group of 5 shooters.

This is awesome ammo! The biggest factor for me is it’s safe to shoot out of my Trapdoor produced in 1884!

I have tried every 45-70 that has been made out there for my WWG Alaska 45-70 Takedown rifle, and my Marlin with a Burris eliminated 111 scope. I found XCaliber on line and order 1 box each of there 45-70, the best ammo I have found is there 45-70 low recoil for the rifles I have @ 200-300yds it performs and groups fantastic With price on there ammo no need to reload your own

    5 out of 5 It's all I've got.....

Bought the [Steinel Ammunition] 45-70. The high powered version is pretty high powered. I have a 22′, 6lb, holding 5+1 rds Rossi lever action. Shoulder wore out starting after 4-5 rds . The lighter recoil was quite handle-able through 24rds. think I’ll mix some higher powered stuff with lighter recoil variety at about a 2-4 ratio until gone. Not planning on going after Moose anytime soon anyway.
